ACL DIVISION 2

Rock defeated Castlederg on Saturday at Pairc Naomh Padraig in our ACL Division 2 relegation play off game. This was a hard working if unspectacular performance, but it got the job done against a dogged Castlederg team that were never going to give up on their Intermediate status easily. Playing into a strong swirling wind in the first half we held Castlederg to just four points with our solitary point coming from Aidy McGarrity. Half time Rock 0-1 Castlederg 0-4. The second half saw scores equally hard to come by for both teams, but a Ciaran Gourley goal was to prove to be the vital score and along with further points from McGarrity, Gourley and Speedy Mullan saw us hold out for a deserved one point win on a final scoreline of Rock 1-4 Castlederg 0-6. We now play a Division 3 team in a promotion/relegation playoff with the winners playing Intermediate football next year and the losers playing Junior. Date and time to be confirmed. Team & scorers v Castlederg: James McAuley; Peter Ward, Niall Mullan, Peter Girvan; Mark McAleer, Aidan Girvan, Niall McWilliams; Diarmaid Carroll, Enda McWilliams, Cathal McWilliams, Ryan Crilly, Eamon Ward; Ciaran Gourley(1-1), Aidy McGarrity(0-2), Liam Nugent. Subs: Tommy Bloomer, Stephen Mullan(0-1), Paudie Ward. Many thanks to Leah Quinn and Niamh Lagan who sang Amhran na bhFiann prior to the game and also to the girls who collected lotto.
